Great video Dave. It's helped me justify my current (non commercialised) project.
It was a chance find, although why I hadn't spotted it before I can't say. Glad you liked it. I got something out of it too.

This one isn't particularly film related (although many of the example images used are on film), but it's a nice video that matches my own thoughts on the use of light and shade in images (particularly if I hear a camera club competition judge keep harping on about keeping all the shadow and highlight detail :) ).

I don't know why this thread is tucked away in the darkroom cupboard..

Here's a video (more an interview with slides) I found last week. A channel I'll be exploring further.

Ian Berry's book The English was what got me hooked on documentary photography, particularly of English subjects, when it came out. Which dates me...

Because you get a more civilised clientele in here than in the less-couth parts of the site
In that case perhaps I'd better leave. :giggle:

I nearly clicked like but then I thought that might be open to misinterpretation, anyway I'm sure you fit in here very well Dave :)
Apart from having renounced film around 2006. :$

I could share some of my 40 year old film photos I suppose.:)

Yeah I was thinking more about the eclectic nature of F&C folk rather than the film bit. The ones I have met are not all that conventional :exit:
I say there, sir, damn you, gadzooks! Roberts? Where's the brandy, quick!

Seeing as the manager of my local camera shop once said to me, "But you're not a normal photographer", perhaps I might fit in here. :D

Also, Netflix is currently running "Shot - The Psycho Spiritual Mantra of Rock" which is a documentary on/by Mick Rock. I really like the work of the music photographers - Kevin Cummins & Brian Griffin in particular - and this is now in my watch list (not watched it yet though)

A comment on what you quoted, Ian - I know you didn't write it!

Vintage is a term beloved of often dubious ebay sellers ...

an image floating around in space and stored in cold machines
Machines are rarely cold, they're usually hot!

Let us sign it with our name
We have a joint name? We are no longer individuals, but a collective?

have entrusted its making to a skilled artisan
Is that a euphemism for DSCL?

Let us be collectors and guardians of these beautiful artifacts
Ownership is key. Keep your gun handy.

Let us celebrate the print.
Indeed (sigh). And let's do it in the road, without the sales pitch.

I just came across this kids channel, not the usual old crusty reflecting on life and his voice is somewhat dull but I've just watched about 4 of his videos on the trot, he takes some engaging photos...

And this from his channel was pretty refreshing, the mods should make it compulsory viewing before people are allowed on the site :)

I’ve been subscribed to his channel for awhile now and like his content.

Meant to thank you @Ed Sutton in the other video thread of interviews with Parr but that thread seemed to have hit the rails and I didn't really want to revive it.

I'd never seen Jem Southam's work before spent the last couple of days trying to get one of his books.

Wfh on Friday so now I've discovered this thread I'll have something to entertain me.

Bugger!

I think it was a BBC film. I'll have a look.

Some beautiful pictures there, but did anyone else grimmace when the original transparencies (which it appears have been carefully stored in temperature controlled conditions) were then slid around on a light table by someones bare fingertips? :runaway:
I thought that at first Nige, but then it seemed like they were in clear sleeves and that would explain it.

Warning: contains LF Kodachromes
I was looking at the opening images thinking "how the f... did they look so damn good?". Then I saw the 8x10s and it was ... "ah... that's how..."

Encouraging to see a young curator too.
