What's the best way of getting the blurred effect of clubhead speed? And any other tips appreciated.
Thanks

You'll need to shoot in shutter priority, i'm guessing as to the sutter speed needed, but maybe start at 1/500s and see how that works.

edit
back of the fag packet calculation - club head travels at approx 40 to 50m/s at the bottom of the swing for a good golfer.

40m/s for (1/250s) = 0.16m, should provide a descent blur.

thanks.not sure I understand all the maths :) .So if in aperture priority what adjustments would I make to get 1/500s?Or is it more complicated?

If you want to specify the shutter speed you need to be in shutter priority. You then set the shutter to the speed you want, let's say 1/250, and the camera will set the aperture automatically.

Just shoot manual and don't worry about the camera messing up your exposure ;)

There isn't much changing when shooting golf so it's easy to set a manual exposure for what you need, then you are not affected by those in light or dark shirts, bright sky behind, dark trees etc.

Also, if you are shooting a competition rather than friends (I've done some charity events in the past), then etiquette is not to fire until after the ball is struck otherwise you might not be popular.

It's a regional pro tournament and they want some photos for website.

If there's a practice day, that's when to get shots of them swinging into the ball, but make sure to ask each player (or their caddie) first. Some won't mind, others will use you as a clubhead cover if you click while they're swinging :)

They'll all mind during the competition though so as Mark says that's when to get the storytelling shots.
