I've got a gig this weekend shooting Ice Hockey.

Not something I've done before .. plenty of outdoor sports (football/rugby). I'll be using a D700 and possibly a D300s - although i suspect the venue will be a bit too dark for the latter.

Any hints/tips from the seasoned sports pros?

Thanks
Daniel

deffo will need a fast lens.. you will almost certainly be shooting through the plexi.. take a good strong cloth or towel to clean an area if its anything liek the ice hockey i go to..

just noticed your location.. where you going.. alty ?

70-200 will be perfect. I have shot manchester pheonix at altrincham so thought you might be going there.. I ahvent done sheffield but others on here have.

you wont need the 1.4 .. just the 70-200 IMHO :)

so teles like 300 and 400mm won't be a good idea in a ice hockey stadium? :-/

When I used to shoot ice hockey at Ice Sheffield I used a 300mm IS 2.8L on a 1D body and a 70-200 IS 2.8L on another.

i love using a 300 at ice hckey.. the arena i go to has lots of empty seats just in line wiht the top of the plexi.. shooting over and into the rink from distance gives the illusion your on the same level... however you lose about a third of the ice you cant see.. but only a problem if theres a fight under your nose..

not all arenas are good for a 300 but all are good for a 70-200
