Should I use a bigger watermark?

No
Took some candid shots at my mate's wedding the other day.

I've uploaded them to <now removed>

Most of the shots have a small watermark in the bottom right hand corner. Now I'm not worried about people pilfering the shots because I'm quite happy to give away the full res images for free – hence why there’s no intrusive copyright watermark.

However, I'm surprised that nobody has asked for a high res version. So, does this mean that the shots are crap - OR that people are just right clicking and saving the low res image?

Maybe I should have used a more prominent watermark?

Cheers.

I dont think the watermark is a big deal really.
If you made one big/central/complex enough to put people off copying, it would also put people off looking at and enjoying the pictures.

But you seem to have uploaded them at around 2MP. I have had very decent quality prints larger than A4 size from my old 2MP camera.

Try sticking to around 800px on the longest side. That's big enough for most people to see the details and enjoy the picture, but not quite big enough to get a decent print.

For good sharing with important people, I perfer not to leave message on the photo. But for sharing on website for everyone, I normally put a cross watermark at the middle of the photo.

But I suggest only let the website program to do the watermark. Do not put the watermark on photos inside your hard drives.

If you're giving the shots away fro free does it matter that people are downloading them as is?

It could be people are happy to look at them on you Picasa web site or are simply downloading the low res images to their computers, and don't need high res images

If you have no problem with people having a hi res copy of the photo why are you watermarking them to start with?

If I looked at those pics and saw the name down the bottom I would naturally assume that any larger version would also come with it on and wouldn't bother asking (especially if I was going to print it for a frame).
