Show us yer film shots then!

So today I started scanning from films processed a few weeks ago (and teh photots from several months ago!!)

A trip to "Vintage By The Sea" in Morecambe, back in August - Fuji GM670 and Kodak Portra 400 - found it hard to focus with a 50 year old rangefinder patch and my eyes in the unusally bright sunlight!!!

The Agfa is one of my favourite cameras at the moment. It has a meniscus lens, a curved film plane (like a Brownie 127). Just a couple of exposure and focussing settings. f11 or f16, a general purpose focus setting, not very near to infinity, or, if you like a bit of adventure, a bit closer.

You have to admire the way Fomapan copes with the exposures.

By the way, these scuptures are all in marble. Whether or not they are good art (how would I know?). They are completely captivating.

I shot one of the rolls of expired slide film from my stash recently. There was a noticeable purple cast of the results but I've been able to correct the worst of it in Lightroom.

Olympus OM-10
Zuiko Auto-S 35mm f/2.8
Kodak Elite Chrome 200 (expired 2004)
Lab developed.
Home scanned.

From memory I always thought Kodak Slide Film was a bit Blue/Purple, thankfully these days it is easier to correct. (y)

Things I have learnt today:-
  • My GX680 works!
  • I need a better tripod mount, an Arca plate that fits into both tapped holes on the bottom of the GX680, because of its weight it wants to turn on the plate when repositioning
  • Don't reposition the camera with it switched on, its too easy to accidently push the shutter button, when aligning the beast!
  • Kodak Gold was probably the wrong choice of film - the images today screamed Provia - I only put Kodak Gold through as its relatively cheap and I could get it 1 hour processed in Manchester (Advanced Photo Services offer a 1 hour C41 service)
  • I probably need a decent lightmeter rather than a phone App, the GX680 reports under/over exposure but only after its taken the shot!

It’s been a loooong time since I’ve shared anything here, mainly because I don’t get to actually shoot anything as often as I’d like!

New Brighton on my Six6SWC with Mamiya Press 50 on Portra400. I converted these to B&W because I like the contrast in the clouds but it didn’t really work in colour.

A few from me - took my TLR and Nikon FE with me to Croatia as I didn't want to lug my SLR all over the place with me and it was quite a nice challenge. Only just scanned the film as I haven't sat properly at my desk since March...

Tried scanning with the negatives on the glass, and a piece of the anti-newton ring glass behind the negative and it's loads better. Seems the contracts and colours are much better, with less digital noise.

These are something else.
I never knew Portra could render images like that.
Well done indeed.

Thanks, I think is bright sunlight Portra is more than capable of looking like this, there are plenty of California photographers who regularly get the slightly bleached out look. I just used the meter on the GM670 100mm lens, and an ND filter (3 or 6 stop) so I could shoot wide open.

I was very pleased with the images I took, almost certainly going back to the evnt next year, just hope the weather is as good!
