Shutter speed

Hi.
When i go to change the shutter speed on my 500d, the options go from 1/4000th of a second right up to 30seconds. but theres a couple that i dont get.
It goes down to 1/4 which is a quarter, but what do the following represent
0"3
0"4
0"5
0"6
0"8
1" then i get that this is 1 second

They're decimal points of a second; so the scale runs from 1/4 = 0.25s then 0"3 = 0.3s, 0"4 = 0.4s through to 0"8 = 0.8s then 1" = 1s.

Incapete is bang on.

But in really really really basic terms though then its:

0"3 - 30% of a second
0"4 - 40% of a second
0"5 - Half a second
0"6 - 60% of a second
0"8 - 80% of a second
1" - 1 Second
