SHUTTER SPEEDS

I have a Canon EOS 450 D and am shhoting on "TV" for soem reason the camera will not let me adjust the shutter speed above 200 can someone tell me what I am doing wrong.

By any chance do you have the flash popped up? This may prevent you going over the maximum sync speed.

Alternatively, does your lens have the aperture range needed for you to shoot at 1/200th? As in it isn't bright enough to shoot faster than 1/200th at your chosen ISO, even at the widest aperture you have.

But the camera would still let you set the shutter speed higher, it would just underexpose the image.
