As per title which of the above?

Have been using my 70-300 vr for equestrian and after last weeks efforts taking pictures in dull drizzle am thinking an f2.8 zoom may be a good investment! I have a D90 and S5 pro both with built in motors, my only concern is that the D90 replacement (possible upgrade) may not have the motor which would push me towards the Sigma.

Both lenses are about the same price on ebay.......

Whatever you upgrade from a D90 to will have the motor in the body - everything above a D90 has a body motor.

I've not used the Sigma, but was in a similar position a while ago and went for the 80-200. S/H they are the same (ish) price as a new Sigma, but I think it's worth it.

I wouldn't get a lens from Ebay though - you have no comeback if it's a private seller, and limited if its a business. The only way I would buy from Ebay is if I can go there and see and try the lens first - which is a lot of aggro if you're bidding on auctions!!

If you're happy with S/H - I'd wait until one comes up here.

I am thinking that the D90 replacement from Nikon, may not have the motor?

No problem with SH, (have bought 2 items on here) or actually from a company of ebay, my thinking is I would be really unlucky to get a dud Nikon lens!

Ah, that makes sense. Not sure that Nikon would do that at this point though as there is still a big demand for older AF lenses.

It wouldn't necessary be a dud lens, but one that's not been looked after, scratched, damaged etc...

Buying from a company on Ebay apparently you have more comeback (providing it's buy it now) but I am still not sure I'd want to risk it unless I could see it first...

If you are worried about a motor, then look for AF-S lenses - ie the 70-200 f/2.8 AF-S or 80-200 f/2.8 AF-S rather than the 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D. The AF-S will also focus faster than the AF-D too.

I think its unlikely Nikon will remove the motor from D90 class cameras mind you.

Only thing with that is there's a pretty big price difference between the 70-200 and 80-200, even S/H

Nikkor 80-200 AF-S is very good indeed. There are lots of people on here who use them regularly. Well worth the money.
