sigma 10-20 wide angle

i have recently bought the above lens and find it quite soft image wise it is the more exspensive 3.5 constant apperture one.
my question is can anything be done about it or is it a case of going through the apperture range to find the sweet spot and if so do i need to shoot raw or jpeg.
or is it a case of sending back to sigma .

I believe the f3.5 is softer than the f4-5.6 version but not to the point where it is very soft. Can you post a few pics?

There are two possibilities. Firstly it could be focus error. Do you AF or MF? Are you aware of hyperfocal distance and depth of field? If not read up on those, have a look here http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html and elsewhere.

If focus is correct, but the image is still soft, it is the lens. I had used a soft Sigma 10-20 and it would be barely usable above f11, nothing would really help it. If it comes to sending it back, replace it with Tokina.

P.S. Those images at that size don't tell anything at all.

At 1/25th sec were they handheld? if they were might be a lttle camera shake.

You don't really need f/16 with a 10 -20 to get everything in focus. Try shooting at f/8.
