Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Lens - Repair?

Hello all - this is my first thread so please forgive me if this has been covered elswhere. I have looked but have not been able to find anything so far.

I have a Sigma EX 105mm f/2.8 macro lens this is being used on a Canon 500d

I have put this lens on my film girlfriends film SLR and also my DSLR after approx a year laying dormant and the AF does not seem to work, it just makes a noise and doesnt sound great.

my question is....

Is this a comon problem with this lens?

Would sigma be the best people to repair this lens?

Have you cleaned the contacts?

i took my Sigma to my local shop and they sent it to their 'lil man' It came back hunky dory and beautiful again (I dropped it on cobbles from waist height )

I'd only send Sigma lenses to Sigma to fix (or Fixation who are Sigma authorised)

If the lens is out of warranty, and it works in manual, I'd probably not bother as for macro, manual focus is the way to go.

thanks for the advice puddleduck, the contacts all look fine to me.

I find the AF quite handy when using the lens for stuff other than macro
