Nice. How far away would you say you were in this shot, and the first pic you posted on the last page? Are they cropped at all?

Thank you Ned for the comparisons! I also have a D700, but don't bring it out too often to use, I store it away like a gem. ..Cheers, John
I just tried the links I posted and they all work, I will try again here..

These look quite soft, are they hand held? Also, have you checked for front/back focussing?
What have you changed?
Thanks a cracking shot, lovely detail. As above, what changes did you make?
Does look a great lens, although I am leaning towards the Tammy as I can get it for £670 compared with £899 for the Sigma C. Sigma C looks a better lens though to me.Have set C1 and C2 both up as Dynamic IS and C1 with A/F bias towards speed and C2 with A/F bias towards focus.
Been out again today for a play but had a problem with heat haze at 960mm and then had a bit of a grab shot as when i changed over bodies to the 1DX the sparrowhawk just appeared in the field next to me and i just switched it on and grabbed some shots!
Think this lens may take a little bit of tweaking and a very slight learning curve to get the best out of it but value for money wise its a cracker.

Definitely, if I could get the Sigma for that price outside of eBay I'd definitely have it.I got mine from eBay for about £750, thought it was worth the little extra over the tamron
I'd be happy with those shots for just messing about
Hi John,
Any chance you can post some images taken with your D700 and the Sigma lens. I'm thinking about changing my set up to this combination.
Thanks
Here is a couple more taken with a 1.4x converter which makes it a 210-840mm lens. Both of these are shot at the full 840mm and cropped heavily. Nothing special but for such a slow lens (f9 with a converter) it takes it very well IMO.

@ Glen (Gadget) .... you've got the the 150-600 ??? Interesting to have your opinion on it, I've seen some very favourable reviews but wondered how it would cope with motorsport and especially bikes. Did you put it through it's paces? How does it compare to the 400 5.6 prime? AF speed good? 1DX should help etc. Appreciate your thoughts.
Yes, it was with a Canon 1.4x tc John - for some reason a Canon converter seem to work better than the sigma ones which is very strange.Roy,
ALL the pictures I've seen you take and post are SUPER shots! ..don't let anyone tell you otherwise! ..excellent results with your 1.4x tc, but this one must be from Canon, and not from Sigma
Cheers, John
Thanks Keith. Although I often hand hold the lens I think that when shooting at 600mm (especially on a crop camera) a good tripod will always give more consistent results. When using a 1.4x tc a tripod is a must IMO.Great images Roy, my images a are bit soft but its my weak upper body strength. I am going to have to use a monopod at all times.
Roy I also have the 7D2, great shot of the Swallow, is it hand held and at what distance.Looked back to my Swallow site yesterday and took a few more snaps. Taken at the full 600mm on a 7D2 Camera.
Yes, it is handheld Keith. This is just under a 40% crop of the full frame and I would estimate the birds was around 30 feet away.Roy I also have the 7D2, great shot of the Swallow, is it hand held and at what distance.
