Hi,

I think I hijacked another thread, so decided to start my own :)

I've recently bought a second hand Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC Macro and have been very happy with it :D, but I ordered a new Tamron 17-50mm VC yesterday and don't know if I've wasted my money ?? Shots from the Sigma are sharp in my opinion, here are two shots I took today handheld with my 450D

One of my son @ 100 crop, 48mm, f5.6, 1/200sec, 580ex flash

Another of a spider @ 100 crop, 70mm, f9.0, 1/400sec, 580ex flash

I realise these aren't wide open, but sharpness is no different.

You'll gain a constant f2.8 but lose 20mm. Personally I went for the constant f2.8.

The choice is yours....

That is the choice :bang:, I've heard people have had bad copies and don't want to and up with a bad egg !

I've got the VC Tamron. For what my two cents are worth ($0.02) I'm happy with it. Wide open it suffers a bit, but stopped down to f4 or 5.6 it seems to sharpen up. Always nice to have the f2.8 though!

Lee, if you buy from a local specialist shop I'm sure that they'll be happy to swap a lens if you think you've got a bad copy.

Personally I think that "bad copies" are a lot rarer than some would have us believe :)

I guess shooting without flash and at lower shutter speeds is a big test,I'll do some more test shots :)

The f2.8 all the way through from 17 to 50mm would be nice :D
