Would anyone care to comment on the sigma 18-250 as a walkabout lens?

It's a great lens, but like most superzooms it suffers from softness at the extremes. From about 40 to 220 FL it's decent enough though. It's not as good as having the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS pairing as the IQ of the pair is better overall. I went from an 18-250 to an 18-125 when I got my 100-400 L which was a bit sharper throughout, but the 18-250 is good enough for a day out at the beach etc. Wouldn't want to have it as my only lens if I was shooting something really important though.

This is my problem, I have a tamron 18-270 as my only lens, I bought it when I didnt no anything about anything now I'm not saying I no much more now but I'm now starting to notice a bit more!
I think I could do with a change back to basics so to speak!
My camera is a canon 450d I haven't got the 18-55 kit lens so any help on sorting my kit out would appreciated!
Taking holiday pics mainly few landscapes!
I'm looking to getting a big zoom lens at some point for wild life and maybe a bit of star gazing!!!
