Sigma 30mm f1.4 - Should I?

Yes, yes and yes :D

I love it, it's my most used lens now. There's a whole host of images in my Flickr stream taken with this lens, can't recall if any of them are completely wide open though. Either way, I've never had any problems at 1.4.
 
Its a pretty decent lens, even at f/1.4 I found my copy to be sharp enough and it got a lot better once you go past f/2.0.

It isn't optimised for sharpness though, so if that's your main consideration rather than DoF or bokeh then there are better alternatives, but as an all round lens I really liked mine.
 
I'm gonna when funds allow. From the reviews i have read and image samples i have seen this is going to be a deff purchase!

Excellent lens - not seen one in Sony fit, but I've used about 4 or 5 in Nikon fit and they are just super lenses. Sharp, sharp sharp wide open, with a class of bokeh usually seen on 85mm f/1.4 class lenses.

Hate to say it, but it's sounding like lens lust ;) :D

If you don't really use your 28mm much, how do you'll use the 30mm much either? I'm sure the f/1.4 is very appealing, but if it's just for the novelty value, you could end up disappointed and out of pocket.

If however you don't use the 28mm because it's not fast enough, then I'd say go for it :thumbs:

Personally I'd say try just using the 28mm for a little bit (a few days, a week, up to you). If you find the focal length isn't right, or you get bored, then don't bother with the Sigma. If you absolutely love it, but find f/2.8 doesn't do it, buy buy buy :D

Chris, I don't suffer from lens lust :lol: Haven't bought a new lens for over a year. I do like the focal length, in fact it's probably better on the crop than my 50mm which can sometimes be a bit long and I do like playing with wide apertures. I've also heard that the overall IQ is better on the sigma so that's what I was hoping to ascertain here.

Just checking :D (I'm a chronic sufferer :lol:)

If you definitely like the focal length (and I agree on crop it's better than 50mm for me too), and you want to play with big apertures, I'm sure you'll love it! I was close to buying one, then I realised I wouldn't really get enough use out of it, even though the f/1.4 - ness of it was soooo tempting! Just get it :thumbs: :lol:

The sharpest lenses around seem to be f/2.8 pro zooms stopped down. I only put that last bit in as a minor quip, there really isn't that much wrong with the lens.
