I'm thinking of getting one of these lenses to go with my Nikon D90 and just wanted to ask a couple of questions:

What's the difference between this lens and the one without the "APO" ?

Does anyone know anywhere I can get one cheaper than £178.99 - this is the price at Warehouse Express.

Thanks

Alison :)

The APO version is regarded as being better optically and most people would advise you spend the extra £30-40 on the APO version.

I love my APO version, took some great shots with it.

I think there are quality issues on some of them but if you get a good one they are nice and sharp.

I've got the APO version, a good copy, great starter lens. Looks like Jacobs have got it cheaper at the moment, check out camera price buster for discount codes.

It's a right nice lens imo, only had mine for a couple of weeks but I love it. I also bought from Warehouse Express but just noticed the price difference since a couple of weeks ago , I got mine for 155 from them , that's a helluva price jump in such a short time.

I bought mine for £115 from onestop digital, its the poor exchange rate and it'll be a longtime until it improves :(

I got mine from Bristol Cameras as I was down that way, I paid £175, but I have seen at £155 on other web sites, got on recommendation from this site, getting good results, happy with it.

It was my first telephoto, did me very proud - massively underrated fantastic bit of glass but you must get the APO version - the colour and contrast are amazing.

Thanks, I've looked on Jacobs but can't find a Nikon version, only Canon

Definitely get the APO version.

For latest prices check www.camerapricebuster.co.uk :)

Thanks, I always check camerapricebuster for prices but they don't seem to have a menu listing under Nikon for Sigma lenses, only under Canon unless it's me being a numpty :)

Thanks for the info, I've been told to get the APO version but just wondered what the difference actually is?

Thank you to everyone else as well, all info is very much appreciated :)

It really depends what your used to. When I used it I found it amply fast for airshows and the like. These days my kit tends to be a bit better and I'm sure it would feel slow though I doubt I'd miss many shots because of it.

Another thumbs up for this lens from me. I had one of these on my D40 and produced great results. The macro feature is also fun to use. Autofocus isn't as fast as an HSM or AF-S lens, and the motor does sound a bit noisy, but it is totally adequate for most peoples needs.
