I have been looking at the Sigma 120-400 lens. However, I still find myself in a bit of a quandry, do I spend a little extra and get a Sigma 150-500.

I went to test the 120-400 yesterday and was more than happy with it but after some more reading I'm now not sure which lens would be the better option.

dfrear suggested I hire the Canon 100-400 a little while ago but I'm just looking at these two options now.

Cheers

Thanks for that - I'll have a read.

I'm going on safari so would like some range to idealy get a variety of shots.

I was recommended the 150-500mm or the Canon 100-400mm for safari :) If you look on POTN lens example forum they have loads of example shots, and alot are safari and wildlife. That 500mm OS and good AF seals the deal over the 120-400, in my opinion.

I would see if you can find the older 80-400 personally.

I got a chance to try out a 80-400 and a 120-400 and the 80-400 was much better on the longer end, albeit with slower and noisier focusing.

I don't think the 120-400 is pitched as a high end solution, more for someone who would normally buy a 70-300 from Sigma or Tamron and wants 100mm more...

i looked into these sigma lenses a while back before decideing to go for a
300mm f4 prime + 1.4 tc and i think the 150-500 is sharper at 400mm than the 120-400 is at its max length, so imo its the 150-500 or think about a prime.
