Signs of Autumn

Anyone else seen the change in the seasons?

The rowan berries are looking really good now. I hope they aren't stripped by gales.

Yesterday evening in the garden I heard a sound I haven't heard this autumn.

The gentle, more whistle than honking, sound of a group of about 50/60 pink footed geese.

A delight.

I could not be positive in the identification(no binoculars and they were high) but the sound and the almost contantly changing flying pattern strongly suggested pink foots.

Certainly a change in some of the leaves here, some are beginning to curl and go that dull, greenish brown colour. That might be due to the dry spells we had as much as anything though.

Rowans are looking great here too, we have 2 in our garden and they are both full of berries, although one of them has been dined on by our resident blackbirds.

I'm seeing and hearing more birds in the garden now too, they usually disappear over summer to the nearby woods and come back to the garden about now. I've not had feeders out since March though due to the tricho outbreak. It's almost time to put the feeders back out.

Not many swallows, swifts etc now but still getting the odd one.

I'm not seeing a huge change in leaf colour, it's still a bit early I think, not far off but not quite there yet. Only seems like yesterday we were talking about the heat. This last week has been cooler , very wet at times and quite blustery.
