Next month I intend to get my own tripod instead of keep taking my Dads one. I have decieded to get a Silk pro 340 DX with 3 way head or Silk pro 580DX with heavy duty panhead. And was wondering has anyone got a Silk tripod or used and are they any good.

I've still got a SLIK (not silk) 88 that I have had for about 20 years, a bit the worst for wear now but is still useable. The higher end models are good.

GUTTED.:'(

I thought this was going to be something about wonderful motorcycles built in Derby......or naughty nickers.

I've the 700 DX pro and it's great.

It has a manfrotto head on the slik legs but I kept the 700 legs and got shot of the Manfrotto 055XPROB legs.

I too have an old Slik 88, but don't use it now. Got a Redsnapper with ball head - very good quality bit of kit at an excellent price.

The Slik is likely to get resurrected soon though as I've recently taken up archery and will be needing a tripod to support a spotting scope to have a chance at seeing where the arrows have gone to! :)

I have a Slik pro 300dx and it's been great over the past few months.

It's rock steady with my 450d, battery grip and 70-300, however it is quite heavy when hiking long distances with it so I'll be swapping it for a carbon fibre one soon.

Also the leg locking screws are a pain to undo with cold fingers especially compared with most tripod which use the much quicker and simpler clip method.

They're about as steady as you'll get for thier price and are very versatile, but not great for carrying long distances and are comparatively slow to set up.
