Hi all, I have an OM-1. I prefer stills but on occasions wished I could do video simultaneously. Is it possible? Thoughts? Thanks!

IIRC, the OM-1 can give ~ 8MP stills when they're extracted from the video. Less exposure control than shooting solely for stills but might be good enough for your wants/needs.

extracting a still from a video I use a panasonic HC-X1500 camcorder then extract a still from playback which can be stopped anywhere in the video and a snap photo of the screen as a a still.
with the video in the camcorder play back viodeo using the thumbnail button on the camcorder body. one can scroll through thevideo fst or slow/ forward or backwards till getting the frame one wants. stop the video by touchinf the square icon in the screen and the camera icon appears. toch that unti it gows yellow and thepicture is captured as a still

A feature that doesn’t seem to be especially well served by anyone at the moment, as far as I can tell, but I suspect demand for it will grow.

Grabbing stills from video is fine if there isn’t much movement, but if you’re filming at normal video shutter speeds, the stills can easily be motion-blurred.

Even Canon’s flagship R1 can only do it with restrictions: Full HD video, 16:9 stills, and around 18MP JPEGs and with settings matching the video so still vulnerable to motion-blur.

I'm not sure any other brands solve this better yet.

what I can do with my panasonic HC-X1500 is to go into "thumbnail" which is the camcorders replay button for videos stored in the camcorder. There I can bring up the videos and actually go from frame to frame- fast/slow - forward/backward searching the video clip until I get what I want. Then in the screen appears a camera icon, when touched produces a still of that frame as I showed. I find using a high sensitivity styus, as the replay videos are small, is the best bit of kit to use
This is the advantage of using this camcorder for vidoe instead of a camera
