Single adults banned from falconry displays in case they're paedophiles...

Yes
Well, this takes the biscuit, and they deserve to be named and shamed. PUXTON PARK, a family leisure park in Somerset, has a policy of not admitting single adults in case they're paedophiles. You can see how that might make sense if the only attractions were, say children's paddling pools. But when they have falconry displays that might be of interest to photographers... you can't go and photograph them unless you take a child with you.

Here's the story of one man who was denied entry:

YAY!! So they won't let in single paedophiles but a group of them are fine
That seems to be about it. Make sure you take the rest of your ring with you (are they still called paedophile rings?) and you'll be fine.

"So for a day out which everyone can enjoy, pick a perfect place, pick Puxton Park." Unless you're on your own...

All I can think of is what I would ahve done if it was me stopped... complete and utter madness this.. makes you wonder what next :(

On the grounds that the majority of pedophillia happens within the family wouldn't they be better just banning parents?

and aunties, uncles and cousins...

Have to agree with the tone of the article, it is the most ridiculous rule I have heard yet and simply serves to promote the paranoia

I just realised.. what they are saying is.. you cant come in on your own you might be a pedophile.. so go get a child and come baclk....... is it my sense of humour or is that funny :)

Jeez...

...yep, thats pretty much all i can muster at the moment. I hate what this country has become.

Absolutely ridiculous!

That'll be one place crossed off my visiting list next time we're down that way (with the kids btw)
Hope they hit financial difficulties!

 no actually, when you think of it like that, its bloody hilarious because in effect that is what they are saying

Do the staff have to bring a kid with them too I wonder...

So a paedophile on his/her own is a no.

But a paedophile with their kidnapped child is ok.

Marvelous

Won't the kids who are in the park be supervised by adults (parents/carers) anyway? So who are all these perverts going to prey on?

Alistair Mead, the managing director of the park, was quoted in the local paper saying that he thought the policy was sensible and if he conducted a straw poll customers would back the decision.

"We have done our research and in line with all other parks we don't let single men or women in."

Really? All parks do this, do they? Yours is the first I've ever heard of operating such a crass policy. And maybe the paper will do a straw poll.

Found this definition of Political Correctness

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and

promoted by mainstream media which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible

to pick up a piece of sh1t by the clean end."

Interestingly, I just went and had a look at Gullivers Kingdom, the only child orientated park I could think of off the top of my head, mine being all grown up now and there, on the ticket price page, at the bottom...

Please note that Gulliver's is a family theme park and adults unaccompanied by a child, and children under 16 unaccompanied by an adult, will be denied access. Please help us by entering the park as a complete group, or by making prior arrangements with friends or family who are arriving later in the day, to meet at the gates.

Is this more common than we realise I wonder?

I read this this morning with a feeling of disbelief and sorrow at the state of the country. To be fair to the park they did point out that had he phoned up and told them he wanted to go to the falconry display he would have been able to do so. However he would have been escorted rather like a prisoner on remand to it by a member of park staff.

I suggest using their contact page and emailing them just to point out the error of their ways.
Perhaps we could hold a TP meet in their restaurant as you can use it without actually paying to enter the site.
Plus I notice that soon a suspicious looking single gent with beard will be encouraging children to sit on his knee........

Absurd

cheers, cw

EDIT just copied this from their site

"We want to encourage every single visitor to be able to see every part of our park"

I have of course lifted this from their "disabled access" statement - but they didn't think that one through!

I have also emailed them suggesting that they have the courage put this ridiculous rule on their home page for all to see........

How ridiculous! Yet another stupid reaction to an almost non existent threat.
Heaven help us if a man turns up with a camera as well!

Time to start cross-dressing me thinks :)

Probably both!

In reality though, what difference does it make if they are?

They will be CRB checked which guarantees they're whiter than white.

Except that it doesn't. The phrase CRB checked is as relevant as driving test taken.

I think that this is one of the "worst" things I have heard for some time …….. taken into context with all the other violent sh1t that is happening all the time

It's totally disgraceful

It must come close to discrimination

What happened to "not letting the minority win", this phrase was used daily on the news when i was growing up. :(

It might be more common than we realise.

The thing is, Gulliver's Kingdom is aimed 100% at small children, so they might feel they have some justification for their policy, however jaundiced and illiberal it may seem. It's hard to see why a single adult would want to go there. But Puxton Park boast about their falconry, to the extent that they offer 5-day falconry courses. Are you expected to take your kid to that?

It's hard to see why a single adult would reasonably want to go there. But Puxton Park boast about their falconry, to the extent that they offer 5-day falconry courses. Are you expected to take your kid to that?

Not disagreeing, Gullivers was the only one I could think of immediately and their policy actually makes more sense in that groups of adults are not allowed either, and in fairness like you say, there is no reason for adults without kids wanting to go.

It's depressing :(

I feel like a child (oh er... not in a questionable way...) as there are so many places I can't go to alone and must be accompanied by my GF, especially if I have a camera with me.

Maybe I should wear a collar and be lead around by her on a leash, that'd show how normal I am.

I've just called Crealy, near Exeter. They're one of the biggest parks of this type in the South West. They have no problem with single people.

Lost for words! It's the likes of us that keeps these places in business and idiots in work throughout the year not just summer holidays and weekends.

That was my first thought too :D

So they want you to take the child you're abusing or grooming for a nice day out; is this place owned by a peodo ring I wonder ???
