Just upgraded to Sky+ HD ,was wondering if there's any way i could use my old sky+ box in another room .

Most LNB's that Sky fit now have 4 outputs and sky+ and HD only use 2. You could use the spare 2 (which would need to be wired - cable and plugs available at places like Maplin) and you could use the box as a Freesat from Sky box. As I understand, there are more channels available than normal freeview.

I was referring to Freesat from Sky compared to conventional Freeview (if your reply was referring to my post).

This is Freesat from Sky

Wasn't referring to your post. But you still need a free view viewing card for sky otherwise a lot of channels will be missing. I believe they're free from sky though?

Has anyone else notice how much lower the volume on HD is compared to the normal sky+ box . Another thing about the volume is thats it differs between channels .

Whilst i'm on here ,our remote for out tv is defunked ,so we're looking to get another one ,not keen on paying the £64 for the original ,so was wondering what my options are ? . The tv model is an Hitachi P50TO1U 50" plasma .

We upgrade to HD last year but we bought a new TV at the same time so can't really tell if the volume level is Sky box or TV related.

Can you not programme the Sky remote to control the TV?

not sure about the old sly+ box but i find HD channels on the HD box are louder compared to the SD channels, i guess its the higher bitrate.

any of the all-in-one universal remotes should be able to help.

Used these folk earlier this year and was very happy.........

.........until, of course, I found the missing remotes!

I have Virgin not sky but volume differences between HD channels and standard ones could be down to the way it decodes dolby surround sound....so now you need a AV amplifier ;)

I use a Logitech Harmony one remote. Set it up on the computer then everything is pre set. Makes changing from TV to radio to iPod to Cd to Bluray etc all wife friendly and easy :)

Yes. I've read that. Virgin does surround over the HDMI or optical but the settings labels are wrong as it took me a week to work out...

sky remote as far as i know only turns tv on and off ,volume up and down . I need tv remote for tv settings .

Granddaughters been pushing the buttons on the tv and damaged one of them, so at the moment the tv's screen ratio's wrong .

I would agree, sometimes after going from a channel like Dave to an HD channel (especially something showing a newish filmed in HD program) and the difference is quite marked, as much as turning down by 3 or 4 on my surround sound.
