Off for my first trip there tomorrow!:D
Anyone here been and whats it like?

Went there Friday afternoon and again yesterday I'm a member and live quite close (8 miles) it's good and getting better all the time, the Kingfisher hide has been rebuilt and is excellent for garden bird shots through the much improved side windows, depends on what size lens you have really, I got some fabulous Robin shots near the Tropical house:thumbs:

The Starling roost is worth hanging on for if it's a good clear day with a decent sunset you can get some stunning images, Andy Rouse was about recently and has some of them posted on his webblog HTH:thumbs:

If you need any more come back:)

Thanks mate much appreciated..Weather looks promising tomorrow so fingers crossed. How close to the kingfishers can you get?..I will have a 100-300mm plus a 1.4x with me.

Well I don't think they are there at the moment, at least I hav'nt seen them at the hide recently, I've seen them eleswhere though:thumbs:

The hide I reckon is about 27 / 30 metres away from there usual burrow, and TBH you'll struggle, I use a 500mm with a 1.4 or 2x extender and even with that combo it does not give enough reach

For the garden birds and other stuf you should be fine

I went in October before the swans arrived, plenty of opportunities for close ups of ducks and geese. Nice just for relaxing walk around.

I am a member aswell but a 2 hour drive for me

That is usually at about 4.30 / 5 ish depending on light, you can still get out after closing at 4.30 BUT you need to be careful you don't get locked in a hide, they do check but !! if you stay after 4.30 the way out is next to the Peng observatory a little wooden gate HTH

I'm cool with being locked up providing it's not some 55 year year old wellie wearing bloke:thumbsdown: but if it was a female well I guess I could put up with it:thumbs: LOL

Have a great day:)

:D Just seen this on the site

Due to work taking place on the Patch Bridge in Slimbridge we will unfortunatley have to close the centre to the public on the following days:

Tuesday 6 January 2009

Friday 6 March 2009

Tuesday 24 March 2009

Slimbridge is pretty good, Especially the kingfisher hide.

Stick your lens out of the left side of the hide and watch out for a woody. He/she was back and fore for hours when I was there at the beginning of the year. You should be able to get some nice shots with the 1.4 extender added.

Gerald

 Cheers Gerald..must admit can't wait..just charging my batteries and sorting out kit for an early set off in the morning

:D Great day out!!..just over 2 hour drive but worth it..saw 2 kingfishers, buzzards and a heron but all too far away for a shot for me..also managed a (poor) shot of a lightning fast gold crest!

Got there at opening and left just before 5pm..
Highly recommend it and everyone there was very chatty and friendly.I will certainly be going back.

I'm pleased hope the info was ok:thumbs: we had a goldcrest fly into the glass here at work about 1 month ago, sadly he was dead when we saw him:'( but a lovely bird.

It'll be more interesting when they open the Beaver set and the otter pool:thumbs:

Also worth a visit and closer to you is the Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford really good again went there about 1 montha ago:thumbs:

Yeah thanks mate for all your info, much appreciated..I visit Cotswold wildlife park quite often as a friend of mine runs the reptile house..;)
Sad about the gold crest..this one was definitely alive!
