One thing using a camcorder on a tripod with a video head is getting it balanced, I think I have found a simple answer???. This is a manfrotto mvh400AH head but should work on any similar type head

getting the video head plate in the right position so the camcorder/camera is balanced correctly each and every time can be time consuming. Bit too far forward and the unit points down, conversely too far back and it tips the other way. So what I did was get the balance right and then place a bit of 3M sticky pad on the sides of the plate itself. below shutter button. Now without even having to look to check the plate is stopped at the right position, further experiment adding a second patch over the first is better. I had thought also of drilling a small hole and a very small screw for the stop, but not gone that far yet
