My lovely wife said to me today can i borrow your camera i wanna learn ! After her spending some time in the garden and chasing our cats round the house she said i want one i love it.
Now ive got a canon 600d and a few nice lenses so do i take her to the local camera shop and let her hold different bodies (she might end up liking the feel of a nikon) and let her choose or just say well lets get you one like mine and i can show you how to use it which would make more sense since she can use my lenses. Now im thinking b****r it ill get a 650 or 7d and she can have mine but dont tell her that

Get the 7d and give her yours! Then get her to phone my wife and tell her how great photography is and I can repeat the process. The only problem is when she starts taking better photos on your old camera than you do on your new one ;-)

I'd say stick to Canon and share (nicely ). Your idea of upgrading for you isn't so far off the mark, IMO. What is the point of having 2 600s? If you can afford for one of them to be an upgrade then I would go for that - it means she has another camera to grow into if she does get into it. For the price of a new 650 I think you can get a good 2nd hand 7D (or look at Panamoz website).

I had a 550D which I ended up giving to my wife when I got a 5D2 and 7D combo, basically cause I didn't want to sell the 550D off cheaply. I've since gone to a 5D3 and 60D pairing after selling the other 2 to finance the 5D3 purchase, but then I made the mistake of showing the mrs the reviews of the new 650D and she hinted that she should get one as an upgrade for her and sell off the 550D (which I'm now in the process of selling). She does use some of my lenses, but then I use one of hers regularly too. Best idea is to keep to the same system (and just grit your teeth when she goes for the 70-200).
