Just getting started in off camera flash and wanted some advice.
At the moment I only have 1 speedlight (an SB900), but am considering getting another cheaper flash.
I was just about to buy a light stand for the flash, but then was wondering whether I should get a soft box or umbrella
What's better for portraits/product photography (would mainly be used to photograph the kids)?
If I were to get a umbrella, when would I use it to shoot through and when to bounce? When is it better to use white/silver/gold?
If I were to get a softbox, how portable are these? Are they easy to pack up or do you tend to leave them set out? Can all softboxes be used with a flash?
In either choice, should I go for the biggest I can i.e 100cm+?
Are there any product you recommend? Was thinking about Lastolite.
With regards to Flash Triggers - do I really need these if I have less than 3 flashes? Can I not just use the pop up flash on my D90 to trigger the other flashes (making sure I turn off the output of the pop up flash)?
