Soft

its just normal compression that you get from Flickr, although its not as bad as other hosting sites.

Best bet is to resize on your PC to say 800px, sharpen, then upload and you shouldn't get too much of an issue. Other option is to host them on your own site and link to them there :)

I think maybe when you are getting the link from Flickr you are selecting the 'default' size which is medium, 333x500 in the thread you linked to.
Try selecting the large option in the drop down menu (as long as it meets the size rules here) when getting the link and see if that makes any difference.

The stuff I put on here I usually ensure it is uploaded to Flickr in the correct size then there is no more resizing to be done that is out of my control.

Paul.

I tried the large, and TP resized it (still soft), I then tried Lrg Medium , still soft. Also it seems to bring the contrast down a bit, so it makes the overall image a bit grey.

I dont think there is any way around it.
I just fear people who look at our images on here (and dont go to the image sourced original) will think it is the photographer who has produced this image rather than the website that has changed/decreased the original image quality.

I think the max height for images in portrait is 800 on here, I may be wrong there but if correct all the scenarios above would involve some resizing of your image either by Flickr or TP.

If I'm wrong (it's happened before:)) please ignore...
