I currently have the Nikkor 70-300 VR as my long zoom.

I'm looking at getting either the 70-200 VR 2.8 or the 80-200 2.8

Am I correct in thinking these accept a TC?

Then I can sell the 70-300 VR.

Which would you get?

Thanks in advance.

Get the 70-200 VR if you can, although the 80-200 f/2.8 in the AF-S flavour is good. The pre-AF-S AF-D/N versions are also excellent.

For TCs:

Nikkor 1.4x TC-E I or TC-E II or Kenko 1.4x Pro 300 DG TC for a 70-200 VR
Nikkor 1.4x TC-E I or TC-E II or Kenko 1.4x Pro 300 DG TC for a 80-200 AF-S
Kenko 1.4x Pro 300 DG TC for a 80-200 AF (AF-N, AF-D)

Thanks Puddleduck:)

If the VR isn't the main thing I have just purchased the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens Nikon fit for around £450 and my manageress has done the same for her Canon camera. All I can say is how delighted I am with this lens and at a fraction of the cost of the Nikon version.
Based on this it looks like you are paying around £600 more just for VR, is it worth it?

Then you can keep both that and the 70-300 VR nikon lens as well. Thats what I have also. Don't get rid of the 70-300 lens you will regret loosing the extra range.

I'm unsure about the need for VR.
I anticipate the lens will be used in relatively low light conditions so don't really know yet if the ability to go to very slow speeds with VR will make that much difference.

As for keeping the 70-300 VR I'm easy either way. With a TC on a 70-200 I'd have that and a bit more plus, I have the 300mm F4 which can go on another body.
