Some help with technical terms please

[adrury]

Hello, this is my first post bar my introduction so please be patient with me.

I have to wait til April (birthday) before I get my camera so in the meantime I have been reading posts to pick up tips.

I have some questions.

What is the one third rule?

What is a set?

Yes as you can tell I am a complete noob!

There's a good explanantion of the Rule of Thirds here.
I presume that's what you're after.

Rule of Thirds

I think what you mean by 'set' is when people say 'nice set' - by which they mean the sequence of photos posted on here is a good sequence, i.e. it has some pictures in it they like and that they work well together (as a set).

Rules of a third refers to composition.

Hi Angela, no need to hold back, there are no silly questions

You'll have to expand a little on the 'what is a set?' question though has Joe covered what you are asking about?

Yes thanks, In my newness I didn't know what it meant and has guessed (wrongly) that it might refer to a particular amount of photos, so Joe has cleared that up nicely thanks.

Angela, if you have some time, have a read through this http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=99841

Its a pretty damn good article written by one of our members on basic photography and may give you some pointers

Thanks will do, I have three months to kill so whatever I can pick up between now and then should hopefully make things easier when I do finally get my hands on my new camera.
