Sony A290 Now Available!!

Do they? Awesome!! Thanks buddy

Just got to decide if thge A290 is a worthy buy or not!! No reviews yet as it is a new DSLR!

400 = is a silly price imho. not bad of course but I would never pay that money for any entry level dslr with cropped sensor.

Cropped sensor?

How does it compare to say the canon 450D then?

Why have you zero'd in on the A290? Its about as exciting as a wet blanket.

You can get an A450 or A500 for less at the moment.

Not bought any yet!!

Is the Canon 450D a better bet?

:agree:

but also remember that all sony bodies have built in image stabilisation, whereas canon/nikon bodies don't,and you have to buy the lens with IS and VR which makes them quite expensive.as been said, there isn't much to choose between entry level cameras,so i would recommend you try them out and see which you prefer.

So guys, if i had to choose Canon 450D or the A290 which one and why?

How do you know the A290 is not as good? It hasn't been reviewed yet? Only just come out. What makes the A450 better?

It's basically the A230 with the A350/380/390 sensor. So still an entry level camera, still CCD (which is OK if you never venture about ISO400), still with entry level feature set.

The A4xx/5xx are more advanced and fully featured, can use an optional vertical grip, offer AEL, more fps continuous etc.

ISO400 as a maximum will severely limit you - go for the Canon or A450, or equivalent.

Which is why the A4xx/5xx are better choices in the Sony range for almost no extra cost - CMOS sensors with much better high ISO capabilities.

Well, went into my local Jessops and i much prefer the 450D. Thats the one for me guys!

Just got to find one for a good price!!

So you went into Jessops, tried it out and are now going to buy elsewhere?

Shameful behaviour IMHO.

I agree with Puddleduck, no wonder the Jessops is having so much trouble in this day and age, they provide a bricks and mortar showroom for Koolpc to wander into and try all their demo model cameras, get loads of advice from the sales team which they've invested time and money into.

Then he can wander off back home get on the internet and save himself loads of money. Have you even tried finding prices on the internet and then giving Jessops a chance to come close price wise, bearing in mind all the effort they've gone to for you?

i also agree, its disgusting!

the jessops near mine know me well and they are very nice people i've had them price match from currys, jacobs,WEX etc.

we need british shops to stay open and its people like koolpc who are not helping the current economy.

shameful behaviour.

+ it's a proper shop , no grey import, no hassle for months if something bad happens (see canon 5dmkII from WEX thread) .

Rubbish!!

My money goes to the place that offers the best price and service. Jessops wouldn't match any online place i mentioned!!

But, all shops are there for that!! Doesn't mean i have to buy from any one of them!

All shops that have goods on display to try get 'abused' as you put it. If they want people to buy then they should adjust the prices accordingly!!!

They're a proper shop as well. ;)

judging by the topic where the person who bought 5d had massive problems, I can't look at them any more as a proper shop. That's my first experience with them, reading about other people's problems with them.

In this industry you need to realise that the margins on all hardware is ridiculously low. So prices are generally as competitive as retailers can go as most stock UK products not imports. We constantly get asked to match online prices and this is against prices that don't include vat like Simply etc and we just can't do it.

I also think the 450d is discontinued now so not easy to get.

why do choose canon which is out since 2008 and sony which is just out 2010?

Buying camera which is just out is never good buy.

yes, in low light

I take it you mean the A2xx/3xx, as IMO, the A450/5xx are right up there now for low light. Anyway, that's by the bye.

I purchased my DSLR from Jessops, they were very friendly/helpful, and were also competetive on price, as well as getting stock when they said they would. It will be a shame if they end up closing their doors because of HK imports.
