You need to think about both the short and long term.
There is an argument that Canon has a larger range of lenses, but unless you are looking to collect lenses (and have deep pockets) then you will only actually ever buy a few of them.
You will probably find you can get all the ones you want for the Sony system (the main gaps are Tilt/Shift and long primes, both of which are expensive).
On the other hand, you are more likely to find your local photography store has Canon gear, etc, simply based on market share.
It is worth going into a store and seeing how the two feel in your hands, as differences in size and layout may make them feel different, and one may be 'right' and the other 'wrong' when you hold them.
