Yes
I'll be getting the 16-35 and the 24-70 but will only have enough dosh left to get either the 70-200 or the 70 400 and am not sure which way to go :help:

Must be tough choice to make;) I envy you.

Personally I would go for a f2.8:love:

I am guessing the teleconverter idea would be the best with the 70-200mm because you still have an option of the wide aperture and at the same time you can apply the converter to get the reach and still have an f5.6 aperture which is the same on the 70-400mm.

That was my thinking, just wondered what the af was like using the tc

It works OK with the 1.4, I haven't needed to use my 2.0 since I bought it so can't report on that. IQ is only slightly affected as well - I haven't extensively tested though as if I'm at a motorsport event it's more a case of "did I get the car in the frame and in focus?" than "any CA?" :naughty:. This on an a700, I've only had my 900 a short while and haven't used it 'in anger' yet due to my day job and house move getting in the way of my hobby!

I don't own and haven't used the 70-400, but I know it is very well regarded.

Anyone use a TC on the 70-200 :)

i use the sony 1.4 TC with my 70-200 G with very good results...

From what I've read and seen, both are excellent, so I guess it comes down to the Fl you need for the shots you want to take.

If 200 is long enough, then the choice is obvious.
If you sometimes go to 300, then perhaps a 1.4tc with the 70-200,
If you often go 300+ then the 70-400 is the one for you.

Hi John
I have used a 20e-II on a 70-200mm VR and it works just fine it cover the same sort of range my 80-400 VR did but still focused faster.
Plus you have a fast 70-200mm when you have call for one :)
Best of both worlds ?
Only you can decide that one :)
I would suggest trying to find a dealer they may stock the lenses your looking at and try them for yourself.
