Sony NEX-5?

the NEX3/5 is a really good small compact camera, just because it is APS-C frame, much better than the M43 things, just wait the new CZ lens for a E-mount

Unless you want a simple to operate camera with nice knobs and controls and a lovely 20mm f1.7 pancake lens and a bulit in flash and the option of a EVF.
 
Has anyone got the NEX-3? I know theres not a huge amount of difference, aside from the metal body and 1080p video (something I'm not bothered about) but it seems very very cheap.
I'm contemplating buying the NEX 3 cheap as an accompaniment to my Pentax SLR system rather than spending the extra to replace it.
 
the most of SLR lenses looks unbalanced on NEX-5 with a adaptor. ranger finder camera lenses looks a lot better. i have a L39 jupiter 50mm f/2 with a L39-NEX adaptor, really nice, it's cheap, a copy of pricy leica 50mm f/2. leica M lenses are certainly the best performer but the price scared me away.

Yup, 1080 video didn't bother me either and Play had the 3 with the 16mm really cheap so I got one a few weeks ago.
I didn't know the body was a different material, I knew it was a bit bigger than the 5 but not by much.
Upgraded the firmware to v3 and it's much improved.
If you can get the 3 at a decent price I say go for it.

Hmm, they might *look* unbalanced, but I haven't had any issues with handling SLR lenses on my Nex...

I've had both...Nex-5 has a nicer grip and feels sturdier :)

The E-P1 is still a superb bit of kit. The E-P2 has a better screen and slightly better ISO performance. The E-P2 is still quite expensive as it can take the EVF which is superb.

I have the new E-PL2 which i think is superb all round hansom camera. IQ is excellent, rear screen is excellent and it just does everything really well. It is also the right size for me and feels nice to use.

I have also got a NEX 5 which is an awesome camera let down by the lenses which are not as good as the OLY or Panasonic ones. You can put the Panasonic lenses on the Oly Pen cameras which is really good so the lens range is well catered for. The Kit lenses for the NEX are good but not great. There will be new lenses coming out soon for the NEX which should improve things. I have used my NEX with Old manual lenses and the results are stunning!!! This is i think mainly due to the larger sensor.

I agree with you. I have just realised i have a MF lens fetish, lol.. My 28mm 2.8 is super crisp and is 40 years old, just waiting on a Vivitar Series 1 210mm. :thumbs: The i think i will get something like a pancake.
 
The Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 is a superb lens but the adapters are hard to get hold of. I'm saving for a Carl Zeiss Distagon.

I have one of these and 2 or 3 of the 50mm that I've ben thinking about getting the adapter for. I prefer wider though.

Me too. I have a Voigtlander 25mm f/4 which is very sharp and very nice. The 16mm kit lens is a nice focal length too. I think Carl Zeiss is bringing out a 24mm f1.4 in the near future for the NEX system, that will be something really special!! and expensive :(

Personally an equiv focal length of 35mm (Full Frame) is about right for me so with the x1.5 crop factor of the NEX, a lens with a focal length of 24mm should be about spot on! I can't believe it's taken nearly 2 years to figure out what focal length I prefer.:D

Will that Zeiss be equiv 24mm or more like equiv 36mm?
I really like the 16mm pancake, the eq 24mm length is perfect for what I use the Nex for (street photography) but I could probably do with a 2nd Nex with an equiv 50mm on it though.
I usually have a 35mm compact with either a 30mm or 32mm lens with me too.

It will most likely be eq to 36mm which is just about perfect for me. Need to start saving!!!! An alternative would be a Zeiss distagon ZS (M42thread fit) at arround £800+ new!! I could at least use this lens on my Olympus E-PL2 and NEX 5 with an adapter which I have already. Superb lenses!!
