Yes
i was having a play with my A100 and i noticed that when shooting in Raw+Jpg i only get 3 continuous shots before it has to write to the card where as with Raw only it manages 9.

Is there any real benefit to working with Raw+jpg?

Depends on your PP flow to answer your question, but for me there is no reason to shoot anything other than RAW.

When you shoot RAW+Jpeg, during PP - do you use the Jpeg files, the RAW files, or both?

I have'nt shot JPEG on my A900.

I usually shoot JPEG + raw though..

I'm just starting to play around with raw files so I'm shooting raw+JPEG atm so I know what you mean when you say it's slow writing to the memory card!

Eventually, I'll switch to shooting just raw files, but until I fully get the hang of raw files, I still need the safety net of JPEG.

Hopefully won't be too long now though!!

A question which I thought was from a noob until I realised I wasn't doing what I currently am doing for good reason!!

I shoot RAW + Jpeg but only as I thought I couldn't view RAW on camera.

Just tried it and I can view RAw on camera and I can shoot 9 as you say. It refreshes very quickly and I can then continue shooting.

I can also get more on my CF card.

So, in summary... GOOD QUESTION. I have learned.

The only time I shot in Raw+Jpg was when I was experimenting with my camera and didn't really know what Raw was, in hindsight if I had of known that you can just convert Raw to Jpg anyway then I wouldn't of used it at all.

I shoot in raw only now unless I'm on a prolonged shoot covering alot of things and for the lesser important shots I use Jpg to save space.

On my 4Gb CF I can have ~230 Raws or ~1000 Jpgs, meh.

actually what you are seeing is an embedded jpeg thumbrint.
DRO only really works properly on jpeg & in th eright circumstances is capable of doing things better than you can pp afterwards. The problem is getting the right settings & the right circumstances ...

GavSt, have you DRO enabled?
If you do that will slow the camera down as it's processing the DRO before writing to card.
