Sony wash out

A mate of mine who has a sony a200 and a jessops flash unit is now finding that all is photos are washed out and everyone looks pale......any ideas..
PS he has used auto, and aperture and shutter setting but to no avail...

maybe the flash is a manual flash ?

I am far from an expert on flash, but has he tried dialing in a half stop of under exposure comp? and should definitely buy a stofen diffuser also. And try bouncing the flash of a roof.

we have got him to try the roof bounce and he has had his diffuser on and off......we got him to bracket a shot or two but b****r , not much difference

is it a TTL flash ? sounds like it's just put to 1/32 power and the camera doesn't think that there is a flash.
