sound has gone...

I've no sound! I've dl'ed the latest driver, but cannot install through the device manager as the update driver tab is greyed out. Helpies?

does the sound device have an ! on it in device manager?

has anything happened prior to it stopped working?

Nope and nope. Everything looks normal. speakers are working on lappy.

Delete the sound card in control panel, reboot and let the machine find it again, when asked point it to the latest driver you downloaded.

If it doesn't find the card when you reboot, the card is most likely kaput.

Um, I think so... Put it this way, It's worked fine for a year and now it doesn't.

odd that it would just stop, do you update drivers from MS update by any chance?

It may well be that one sneaked through. Anyway, installing the latest Asus driver fixed it.
