Hello all,

Its been a while since i posted here! I had great advice last year when i went to China and now i would love some advice on spain.

I am flying on wednesday (very last minute), hopefully hosteling for three weeks, parts with friends and some alone.

So my itinerary is roughtly:
Barcelona (3 nights)
Madrid (3 nights)
Seville (4 nights)
Gibraltar (some time and staying around there until flight back)

So with that in mind where is essential to go an photograph, i like landscapes and architecture mainly. Anything is good. Also if people know of must-see places in between these then do tell.

thanks for reading

Jonny

Monfrague Parque Natural in Extremadura for landscapes.
Trujillo also in Extremadura for its Medieval centre.
This is about 200+ Kms south west of Madrid. The autovia from Madrid to Seville runs right past both.

El Torcal nr Antequera is not too far from Malaga, and has very unique rock scenery.

Have a good trip,

Philip

The Mesquita at Cordoba is one of the most stunning buildings on the planet - don't miss!

(word of caution: don't lie down to get a low-angle shot. I did this a couple of years ago, and was nearly arrested on suspicion of being a Muslim, apparently quite the crime to some people:shrug:. The Christians are in charge of the place for this millennium (it's changed hands a number of times), and suspect that anyone lying down is genuflecting.

Easy to mistake me for your typical observant Muslim, what with the white skin, long hair, shorts and Glastonbury 2009 tee shirt )

Gibralter has some grea places for photos although your get board of the place after a couple of days. Novelty place to visit though

The cathedral and tower in the town centre of Seville is a must see. 3rd largest church in the world!

Oh thanks so much for the advice i will try and visit as many as i can!

Any more suggestions?

@jon cracking story, you seem the textbook muslim in my mind! Shame you werent eating fish and chips at the time to complete the picture hehe.

Just to expand a little on Seville, I spent a month working there a few years ago. The back streets in the city centre are all very narrow and picturesque with small restaurants and tapas bars aplenty. There's also the bull ring, and the big river running right through the middle of the city with a couple of nice bridges across. They have a tram system that runs in the central more pedestrian area although I never used it myself.

Be wary of people wanting to read your fortunes whilst there. They're fairly harmless but if you get sucked in by one they'll be demanding 5-10euros for the privilege. Not a massive amount, but it can get irritating if they start bothering you. Also, if you're driving, there seemed to be families at every set of traffic lights trying to sell you boxes of tissues.

Pack suncream, it'll be boiling! When I went it was 27C in January!

Excellent just what i was after. I will be sure to watch out. Did you go anywhere around barcelona nearby?

@icnoble thanks a lot for the link never thought to google it lol. It looks stunning.

I am leaving tomorrow but will be able to check back on this thread a little i think. Thanks so much everybody!

Have a great trip! Batteries charged? Spare memory? Clean lens? And they have things called `euros` instead of proper money... odd chap, Johnny Foriegner:wave:

Barcelona is nowhere near Seville. Seville is near the south west of the country whereas Barcelona is north east coast.

I'm sure there's plenty more to see in Seville, but I was there for a month on a working party, and I was working nights to go with it so I didn't really get out much :( When I did get out there was much cheap beer involved so I didn't see all that much of the city for very long lol

There's an American University in Seville and it's full of American students who are all game for a chat and a laugh. They love the English accent! The Tex Mex american sports bar just up a side street near the cathedral tower is good for a cheap drink. I saw the SUper Bowl there in 2008 and the atmosphere was amazing! Also Flaherty's Irish bar just down the road. Plenty of English speaking places about if your Spanish isn't quite up to scratch.

Good times lol

I have been to all 3 places you mention, but only one was "digital" I posted some pictures

Digital Seville

If you are into architectural photography any of them would last you a month!.

Of the 3 Madrid made the least inpression (Cathedral in Toledo - short train ride - was amazing though).

Seville and Barcelona, very close run thing, Barcelona without Gaudi would be lacking a bit so first palce goes to Seville.

Have a great time.

David
