I was just wondering if there were any photographers who have been sponsored by a company here? Or is this something that is very rare... ?

I'm not sure if there are any here on TP, and your right it will be very rare to be sponsored as a photographer.
There will be some famous photographer's out there who will get free gear from the big boys so there equipment gets exposure. If people see a famous photographer using a certain lens or camera, people are going to want it. Its just like any other product out there on the market sadly.
