SSD for Photos Only

I suspect the slowdown is due to the write cache on the HDD filling up. An HDD is only capable of about one third the transfer rate of the SATA3 interface.
I would buy a Crucial MX500, either 1TB or 2TB.

The only drive I have ever had fail on me was a 2Tb Crucial SSD (and since my first HD was a 32Mb add in to my Amstrad 1640, I've used a lot of different drives over the years!)

I have a Samsung 2TB arriving today.
 
Got it, fitted it, spent an absolute age transferring files to it. Is it worth it? Damn right it is. Everything runs faster, LR comes up faster, games load faster; should have done this a long time ago. Now I'm thinking of replacing my internal 3TB backup-only HDD with an SSD as my backups will really fly!
