I'm taking someone down to Stansted on Sunday to catch a flight. While down there I think it is a perfect opportunity to get some aircraft shots. Does anyone know if the airport is busy on a weekend, especially on Sundays?

Also, do the planes land from the north east or from the south west? Or will it depend on the wind direction on the day.

Any help/advice much appreciated.
 
The airport will be busy this weekend and unfortunately I don't know of any viewing platforms for togs. However if the planes are landing from the south west get yourself to Stansted Audi (Google map the postcode) where there is a service road to the rear and the planes come right over the top. I nearly sh*t myself the first time I was there as I wasn't expecting it! :lol:
 
Hi JPS... :wave: ... Colin is right it will be busy, as it is pretty much every weekend... :shrug:

It seems the busiest time is after the so-called 0630hrs 'curfew' for a few hours into the morning and then things steady down.

The landing/take-off direction is very much governed by the wind but if they land from one direction they will be taking off in the other as there is only the one runway - at present... :suspect: ... so either way you will be able to get some decent shots - personally I think the taking off images are always stronger but that is purely a matter of personal taste... :D

Thanks guys, I'll not be there until noon anyway as their flight isn't until early afternoon. If nothing comes of it this weekend then I'll have to make the journey down in the spring/summer when the days are longer and I can stay longer into the evening.
