How good do photos need to be for stock websites? I upload a few, but were removed for copyright reasons.....

Well in your case its not a quality problem but a legal one. What site were you using?

istock is probably the simplest there is as the rules are easy to understand, but websites like getty images have rules that are hard to follow because they are for proffessionals.

Did your images include any form of logo? That would have been breach of copyright - You can not show logos or names of companies such as Nike for example.
