If you have ever had a camera stolen try this site, it looks for photos on the web that have been taken with your camera.

It uses the serial number of the camera which is embedded in the exif details to locate the pictures.

hmm that could be handy................

going to forward this to a couple of guys whose camera has gone missing............

If you load a photo into it now surely it should find all pictures on the net with that serial number?? Just done it with my own camera which was used when I bought it and it came back with no images. I know I have images, across flickr, photobucket, webspace and countless forums aswell as the previous owner doing the same. As you don't have to register any info I would have thought it would come back with atleast something??

I noticed Photoshop seems to be removing the serial number from my images' EXIF info and leaving everything else for some reason, so the images I have online don't have the serial number in them for the website to find.

Ran my serial through it and picked up a few flickr results but I think most of my images have also be stripped of EXIF info

Fantastic idea however!

That will be a setting you have saved in PS save or export

that doesnt mean that anyone with a niched camera would change the settings so the data may be there for some nicked cameras

I could understand that possibly being a cause but the images i ran through it were taken today straight from the camera and it clearly shows the serial number at the bottom of the info displayed. Not sure how old this site is but if its new it may just take time to build up the images it needs to search. The other problem is though if the serial number can stripped from the picture via photoshop or similar then this won't once thieves know what they have to do to remove the serial number.

Thieves will likely pass on the camera though so it could catch out the next owner...

Not that I can see. Why would they have an option to remove the serial number and nothing else anyway? The name I set on the camera and all the shooting information is intact.

It will take time for the site to index the images.

Hum, not sure this works well. I export from Lightroom and it's saying no serial number, yet on Exif viewer/photoshop it's shown along with lots of data, however under Windows 7 properties none of the camera information is showing.

Of course it could equally be used to track unauthorised use of your pictures if you ensure the exif is retained. Indeed that might be a better use for the software.

Interesting idea! Managed to work for anyone yet? And why doesn't it give you the option of entering the serial number manually?

Edit: I'm being an idiot, just saw the 'no photo?' thing..
