So I just created my first thread on these forums, but I noticed that people can save the images, is there anyway to stop this?

Don't post them :)

There's always a way to capture the image if you post online.
You can put a watermark on them to make use of the image more difficult, but there are ways around this too.

Yeah I know that of course, but sites such as Flickr and EyeEm remove the ability to right click and save image. That's what I meant.

There are ways around that. I can save your image with about 3 clicks even if you have done that.

Two things

In regard to your profile settings you have selected "Yes" to Edit my images, so are inviting downloading.

As for right click disabling it has almost no value ~ if an image is viewable it is downloaded on the viewing computer, it can therefore be saved!

Post to here from Flickr, don't post directly to the forum. There is a thread (probably in the help section about how to post images from Flickr)

Like Ken said there is no point, right click or not there is always a way for people to save/download your images if you post them online.

If you do not want people to be able to save your images then do not post them online

Yes, and six months later the thread is there discussing the image but the image is gone. Not very good.

A genuine question, why would the image be gone? Does the link go after a period of time?

Posters sometimes remove or replace the original image. There's no time limit for a link.

It is a general problem whenever you link to images, any images. The original can be deleted either because it is not liked, or to save space or it has passed its sell by date. Common practice if someone pinches one of your images by "linking" to them is to replace it with some porn or worse image and let them show that.

BTW. I have found threads here where there is discussion minus the images.

Don't worry about it. If someone wants your images they will steal them one way or another - disabling saving of images or watermarks.

Just link your flickr to pixsy and let them alert you when your images are being used. Might even get some money out of it if they are used.

@b1gdunc: Sorry Duncan, but Kendo1 is right. Even if you could make it impossible for others to save your photos like removing the ability to right click and save images. There are other ways round, even including screen capture.

So basically as Ken would say, either don't post them or put a watermark on them.

Thank you everyone for the replies, what you all say is true that if someone wants your photos they can get them one way or another, I just thought maybe having that extra security would be good.

Thank you for this I didn't realise. Will change now.

Duncan,i don't know what level you are at as a photographer but allowing editing can help people show you what they are talking about.

You already gave the picture to everyone who views it...... web browser.. no matter which one you use.. has to download the image to the computer in order to view it ... Find your browsers cache folder and have a look.. you will be amazed ..

eg
When you scroll this thread..it only scrolls on your computer.. everyone else looking at it doesnt scroll at same time.. thats because its downloaded onto your computer as you read it.. along with all the pictures..

Personally I adopt the approach of taking rubbish photos so that no one would want to copy them anyway
That's a worthwhile goal to achieve.

I'm almost there.

Then the discussion is irrelevant anyway :)

Only if nothing was said that could provide food for thought for someone viewing the image later (whether the OP or another) long after posting.
