I asked a question a few nights ago regarding my mates D90 and I thought you kind guys had found me the answer but having had some hands on experience with his computer this is the issue -
He has a D90 and CS3 with ACR 4.6 he can open jpeg images no problem but try and open a RAW file and they come up as 'locked'.
Now I thought just installing 4.6 would have sorted the problem but obviously not.
Any ideas anyone would appreciate your advice.

have you tried downloading the latest version of camera raw from the nikon or adobe website (can't remember which)

:)

Hi Rob - yes tried that and it still won't open RAW files

Anyone else have any ideas please

Can CS3 even open D90 raw files? I had to upgrade to CS4 to open D300s raw files because CS3 didn't support the version of Adobe Camera Raw required to read them.

it should be able too, the d90 was added in ACR 4.6 which cs3 does support.

eta are you sure he's installed acr 4.6 - later versions of ACR won't work with CS3?. What happens if you convert to DNG files

Now i know very little about this sort of stuff & have no idea how much the OP knows but i've got a D90 + cs3, i had to download ARC 4.6, is the OP going through Bridge to get at the Raw files?

Yes, ACR 4.6 and CS3 will work (or should work!!) OK with the D90.
When the images are downloaded and he tries to open one they are showing a padlock in the top right hand corner but jpegs open fine.
He has formatted the card, I did wonder at one stage whether the camera was set to 'protect' images but why would jpegs open if this was the setting??

Update......I can load my D700 images OK on his laptop so can only presume that it is the way my friend is trying to open the files.
Thanks everyone for all your help.
