Does changing styles settings ie: Lanscape, portrait etc effect the RAW image or only the .jpg image.

Thanks

No. The only setting on a Canon that affects the Raw (apart from ISO) is Highlight Tone Priority - because it varies the ISO to boost shadows, therefore allowing the highlights to be under exposed and held.

It could have an effect if you convert the RAW file with the manufacturers RAW software, which can apply the picture styles to the RAW file as the camera would have done. I think. ;)

My understanding is that this will show you the effect of applying the style, and you can save the image with it, as a TIFF or a JPEG, but it won't change the raw file?

If you're using DPP software then any picture style settings will be applied to the raw file as you open it in DPP. You are however free to change it to any other style or to discard it completely.

Which is why I said 'when you convert the RAW file'. ;) You can add info to IPTC data such as Copyright, Description etc, but the original RAW file data is/should always be left untouched.

Sorry to piggy back onto this thread but can I also ask if (on a Nikon) either Long Exposure Noise Reduction or D-lighting affect a RAW image? I assume not but thought I maybe should check.
