Subscription Website

I am after creating a website which is subscription only, a members area if you like.

I want it to be automated, with reoccurring subscriptions and not me adding usernames and passwords to a .htaccess file!

I've looked at a CMS front to do this, but is there a better more professional way to do this?
The main features I need are automation and security.

Help!
:)

TIA

I have known a few people that use Amember. It seems to hook in well with other content systems so you can do both. Have something easy to build the site and something else also fairly easy to control memberships with. Drupal cms has membership options which I have used. It is time consuming to set up in the first instance but does basic automation ie someone buys a sub and it automatically adds their created username to the relevant groups. But this does mean setting up all the content correctly with the right groups having access. This is tedious but often necessary.

Amember seems to work with a number of systems including phpbb. I haven't actually used it but know a few others that have and they seem to get on ok with it.

I expect wordpress has something similar.

I couldn't comment on how secure the various systems are but I know drupal seemed ok to refuse access to content that was outside membership and there didn't seem an obvious way of making it give you access when you weren't allowed. Doesn't mean there isn't one though! Having been a customer of an amember driven site that also seemed reasonably secure.

Thanks, I looked at Amember, but it seemed expensive for what it did.
I've heard of Drupal, I will have a look at this.
Cheers
:)
