Hi All.

Towards the end of November I am driving up to Newcastle for the weekend.

Does anyone have any suggestions of good vantage points for landscapes either side of the A1. I will probably take the day to drive up so any thoughts up to 5 miles or so, off the A1 would be appreciated.

Could do with some hills and water!! the flatness of Norfolk gets a little dull at times.

The obvious one is the Angel of the North.

I'm struggling to think of places just a couple of miles off the A1 though.

Devils arrows standing stones at boroughbridge?

You could easily divert to places like york?

Take the A19 instead of the A1 at dishforth and swing by Roseberry Topping/Captn Cooks monument?
 
OK it's a bit North of Newcastle but Northumberland coast and Bamburgh would be worth a visit... even if it means getting up the reoad a bit earlier than you planned.

Maybe about 10 miles away from the A1!
