I prefer no 2 (in my humble opinion) Looks more "real" IYKWIM :)

Yup No1 for me too, the eyes really pop and the whole shot looks sharper to me :)
 
No 1 is much more striking for me. The eyes have it.

no.1 is better, and sharper but it looks over sharpened to me ? can see some witness to this in the hair just above her left eye.

I would go for a similar look as 1 but not so much sharpening, think that would be best of both worlds :)
 
I agree. 1 is over sharpened, but its the better of the two. The 2nd is too dark, stylistically speaking not exposure wise. Too much contrast. I also feel that the flash isn't that great. You can clearly see the shadow from her face on her hair and its made it look a bit fake. You could do a lot more with natural light.
 
Thanks for all the comments and the suggestions for improvements. I will rework the first image with less sharpenning.
 
#1 for me, a gnat's too much on the sharpening, but damned fine pic
the "I'm not making eye contact" look really works (y)
