Yes
looking for hints / tips , where to be , will i get away with a 1000d and 70-300 is , etc etc etc :)

thanks , yes it was badd alll the way up the coast , i am a bit further down in teesside , hopefully this year will be better :)

Have a read through this thread .. very good tips in there; not specific to Sunderland's airshow, but very good nevertheless.

Moved to Talk Photography - as 'Transport' section is for photo sharing.

Also there is a 'meet' being planned for the Sunderland Airshow - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=143262

As for where to be, I would try and stay near to the 'vip' area near the small lighthouse on the green. I believe this is what they use as the central point for red arrows etc displays, also good view over the beach if/when they do a beach display. That said we didn't hang around there last year and found lots of vantage points further along, which seemed to be good. Can't see you would have any problems with 1000D and 70-300. Think the longest reach I will have is my 70-200, just means either cropping or including some other interest in the shots (people, ships etc)

thanks and apologies for posting in the wrong place , i saw the biggin hill thread and assumed i was going to be ok :bang:

Well if show a was like last year, you'll see bubkiss :D

Foggy as anything :)

at least it is not too far to travel for me , i can make a call on the day as to whether to go or not :)

Well I have to disagree here, I don't think 300 is enough to be honest, maybe for bigger items. You should get passable shots of items that are aerobatic or large but you will struggle with things like the Typhoon and F16s I'm afraid. The crowdline at Sunderland, like many seafront shows is cr*p and way out to sea, much further than any land based show like Duxford.

I'll be sticking the 1.5x on my 400 same as I did in 2007, even that wasn't always enough! Stick to the lighthouse suggestion by Jimmy L for positioning, that's as good as you're going to get.

Of course, last year I managed to get out on the pier with the Role Demo team, which would have been awesome...!

Your location suggests you're pretty close, it's certainly worth a short drive to give it a go. I'm always going to be there at least one despite the frustrations! It's a very strong lineup with the UK airshow scene really struggling at the moment so well worth a visit.

Some of my work from 2007 is on my report at - http://www.aircraftinaction.com/2007/Sunderland.htm

Admittedly the fast jets (F16s, Typhoon) are fairly heavily cropped even with the 400+1.5 on my 10d for the most part, although the odd flat pass may come a bit closer. However, shots of other aircraft such as the Catalina, Blades and Chinook were often way too close for my setup so yes, you should leave with something. ;)

Got no shots at Sunderland last year, but at Southport they were pretty damn close to the crowd

That is at 200mm (on a 350D) with a pretty big crop.

200mm no crop (I don't think)

I am not too worried that 200 will be my longest lens to be honest. But as I said that was southport...maybe Sunderland is different.

its only about 25 minutes to get to sunderland , then probably an hour to get parked !!!! , just need the weather now and i am good to go , the last airshow i will have been to would be teesside airport 30 ish years ago  , still remember the vulcan flyover with the bomb bay doors open
