Supermarket photo prints

The past few times ive needed a few 6x4 prints ive used my local Asda which ive been very happy with, does anyone else use supermarkets for prints? Anyone have any experience with Tesco?
 
Tesco stores produce excellent prints! Unlike the online version they have. The colours are always way out with the online ordering system.

used tesco to print a few cheap canvases for family and friends as gifts

colours seem fine and always use instore so can get a proper delivery time & date. store is close so prob easier than delivery

Cheers folks, going to try Tesco out tomorrow. Do you think they will offer 5x7 size prints? I know Asda do, Iam pretty sure they will.
 
Not bad for cheap canvases at the moment - instore half price , 24 hour turnround.

But my local store printed darker than I had seen on my screen.

They offer many sizes from 6x4 to 15x10 and prices are competitive with no p & p, which can kill some orders of say 5-10 in number.
 
The few prints done at tescos were poor compared to those from dscl. Flimsier paper, not as good colour or finish. The canvases I have seen there are not a patch on those from a proper supplier like Oxford imaging.
 
My local tesco only has the self serv Kodak machines which I am not that impressed with. They can only print up to 8*6 for a start.
 
I've used Asda a fair few times and the quality has always been good. I find the instant print machines tend to be a bit on the yellow/green side, but over the counter has been fine (and the customer service is top notch).

I can only speak for my local Tesco, but they're blooming awful. Even though they appear on screen as matching how they did at home, the prints look as though they've ramped the contrast and saturation up, leaving people with bright red faces, and eyes that are pure black dots on a pure white surround.

I had a simple passporty type headshot pic printed there out of convenience (ie: it's on the same street I live on, whereas Asda is about 4 miles away), and fair enough I had a bit of a tan at the time, but I looked hispanic in the print.

Max Spielman are apparently taking over the photo side of things for Tesco, so there should be an improvement.
 
I've never been satisfied with supermarket prints from either Asda or Tesco. If its for personal use I'd rather pay the £1.50 postage & go to Photobox
 
Ive used ASDA, happy with the results, good enough for me who is a green beginer.
 
I've used Tesco once for a couple of 10x8 prints I needed quickly. Unfortunately they were very poor - the b&w print had a red cast and the other colour print was dark, reddy and very muddy looking.

I think results may vary depending on who's pulling the levers.
 
well i took a 16x12 up there to be printed its pretty crystal clear on computer but when they printed it it came out a bit blurred not loads but enough to tell

i sized it in gimp to be the right size but when it cam up on there screen it was to big to fit in so the checkout lady messed about with the settings on there screen so not sure if its a printing problem or something they did
 
Yeah i like asda for 6x4 prints, often get a cd full printed once in a while, i like being able to look through a photo album and not just on line. For anything more serious i use a printers in the city but for what you pay asda is very decent
 
Those unhappy with the instore prints, did you claim a refund?

I got some small prints from Tesco on Saturday which I was happy with needed them for mother's day! But in the future I will get them done online. Tesco and Adsa use the same Fuji photopaper but Tesco prints are glossy and Asda more matt style. Not sure what I prefer :thinking:
 
Tesco are pants for in store prints. I used to use them for odd stuff for the kids but now have a cheap Canon printer that can best the quality I was getting from Tesco. If I need something in a hurry I now print at home, anything else I've been used DS Colour for the last few batches.

That said the photo book I had done by them was pretty good but that took 3-4 weeks to arrive so they had time to do a better job.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt on the first occassion.

On the second, I made a note of checking that their screens had an at least superfiscial resemblance to mine, and they did. When the prints (mono, with a hint of sepia that was barely noticable) came back mustard coloured and with all the detail gone from the shadow areas, I requested that they reprint them. They did, and they were identical to the first set. I told them that I hadn't given them permission to alter them, that I didn't want them, and left without paying.

On the third occassion (the hispanic headshot), I knew what I was getting into but needed them quickly. I turned the saturation down a smidge in preperation, but clearly not enough.

These days, I'll only recommend Tesco to people I don't like.

Tesco Bar Hill? Need some prints done myself but might use DSCL instead if there better quality.

Yes. To the average person they were ok, compared to dscl you could easily see the difference though. Bit like comparing a BMW to a corsa!
 
Where would you guys use for excellent professional prints? my local supermarkets are okay but not excellent.

DSCL & Sams Photo Lab (he's on here) for photography related prints or Photobox for personal use
 
I always use Snappy Snaps there may be better out there but when you are good friends with the manager and get 75% discount I dont need anywhere else lol.
 
i do things the expensive way and print them myself :lol: only in small numbers though, i really need to give dscl a go to be honest. they didn't even seem to be particularly dear providing i was looking in the right place!
