Synology NAS

HI folks,

Does anyone know where I can get a Synology DS220J NAS looked at and, hopefully, repaired? I appreciate the unit is out of warranty but the manufacturer is being stubbornly unhelpful :argue:

Last week it started becoming unresponsive with the LAN and disk activity lights flashing like Blackpool illuminations on speed. I forced a power down followed by a power up and was then able to log into the unit's dashboard and run a health check - everything came back "healthy".

After that it worked normally for a couple of days before falling over again with the same symptoms. Forcing it to power down again gave me the opportunity open the case up and give it a clean inside. There was a fair amount of dust but nothing obviously amiss. Since then it has been sat disconnected on my desk and I could really do with it right now :headbang:

Fortunately, the NAS was used as a backup and I have it backed up to two further places so there's no risk of data loss. I also used the NAS as the source to stream music, photos and videos to the TV.

None too sure what to suggest but just maybe a few on this search list might be able to help you???

I used to have a Synology NAS and it also started to play up. I found it impossible to sort a repair/remedy that was financially viable so in the end resigned myself to replacing the unit (I bought a UGreen NAS which is excellent) and then selling it for parts.

If you want to, from my experience you can ourchase another used DS220J and transfer the disks across and it *should* work straight away as the on board processor will recignise the files and encoding (as Synology use their own proprietary RAID system)

I was originally a pretty peeved at Synology's lack of support but I've chilled out a bit and guess that I've had reasonable service (50,000 hours +) from what is a consumer drive system. I just wish it had given me some warning before it went kaput. Your idea of buying another DS220J and putting my drives into it isn't too bad but I need to be sure its not the drives that are faulty first. Hopefully Fields will okay the free diagnostics and I can drop the unit into their Cardiff office next Thursday on my way to visit some relatives down that way :)
